The union of Āyurveda and Western Medicine allows a holistic approach to health that paves the way for new avenues of medical care with Āyurveda in the United States.
At MD Āyurveda in Sebastopol, CA, we offer Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine alongside conventional Western Medicine for a combined approach to radical health. This union makes full-scope Āyurveda and Pañchakarma possible in the United States.
This union also creates a conducive environment to establish confirmation of Āyurvedic processes and treatments using precise diagnostic tools and laboratory testing available to Western Medicine.
Our patients benefit as well. Dr. Remy Coeytaux provides the conventional and integrative medical care at MD Āyurveda. With his oversight and expertise in Family Medicine, our patients’ experience with Āyurveda and Pañchakarma integrates easily into their current conventional healthcare system.
Our Pañchakarma center is outstanding in a country where Āyurvedic cleanses are largely appropriated and misapplied. Under the supervision of a medical doctor, MD Āyurveda makes it possible for Pañchakarma to be offered in its full scope of practice using traditional methods to perform śhodhana, removal of the doṣhas, through their nearest route of exit.
At MD Āyurveda, classical Āyurvedic treatments and their classically-based variations may be utilized to their full extent. Safe elimination of doṣha, after the necessary preparatory steps are undertaken, may be performed with vamana, virechana, niruha and anuvasana basti, nasya and rakta-mokshana or their classically-based variations.
Dr. Remy Coeytaux, MD, PhD, has an extensive medical biography and has co-authored more than 100 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed medical literature.
Most of his research focused on building the evidence base for acupuncture. He established the first acupuncture clinic at University of North Carolina Hospitals and helped establish the first Integrative Medicine Clinic at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Today, his interest lies in the integration of Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine with Western Medicine.
Pañchakarma programs at MD Āyurveda are overseen by Vaidya Jessica Vellela, BAMS, and a staff of classically-trained assistants and technicians that support the Vaidya.
Jessica Vellela, BAMS is the first American-born woman to become an Āyurvedic Physician in India and practice there independently. After returning to the United States, she founded ĀYU Council, a professional organization for Āyurveda, and ĀYU Academy, one of the country’s leading online educational programs for professional Āyurvedic practice. Her commitment to professional excellence within the Āyurveda community in the United States is incessant.
